The Ottawa Senators have played their last three games at home. After Thursday night's 5-3 win against the Boston Bruins, the conclusion of a four-game home stand before a seven-game road trip awaited against the Los Angeles Kings.

Last season, the Senators and Kings each earned one win against each other. In a new season and the final game before the long road trip, a former Senator got to stick it to his former team

The Kings shutout the Senators 1-0 at Canadian Tire Centre. With the loss, the Senators fell to 9-6-4 overall on the season.

Ex-Senator Anton Forsberg would get the start in goal for the Kings. In his return to Ottawa, Forsberg would be the story of the game.

Although the Kings led 1-0 after the first period thanks to an Alex Laferriere tip-in goal, the period was a dull one. Nine shots on goal were combined by the two teams, and the Senators' offense struggled with having just four shots on goal in the period. The Senators didn't record their first shot on goal of the game until 12:57 into the period, thanks to Claude Giroux.

The score remained 1-0 after a scoreless second period, and after the third period. In the end, Forsberg made 17 saves to shutout his former team. Forsberg was having inconsistency with having a 3.54 GAA heading into tonight's game. Now, Forsberg earned his first shutout as a King. Earning it against his former team will make the win sweeter for the veteran goaltender.

The Senators have rest before their long road trip. The Senators will return to action on Thursday night when they begin the road trip when they face the Anaheim Ducks. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET at Honda Center.

Last season, the Senators earned three of a possible four points against the Ducks. In the Dec. 11 showdown, Drake Batherson recorded a hat trick to help lead the Senators to a 5-1 win.
