Against the Penguins yesterday, the Senators dominated. Leevi Merilainen recorded the first shutout of his NHL career at 22 years old. Three of the Senators' five goals came on special teams (2 PPG, 1 SHG). Shane Pinto recorded two goals and Claude Giroux recorded three assists. Eleven different Senators recorded at least one point in the win.
As for the Stars, they come into today's game with a 27-13-1 record. The Stars have won their past seven consconsecutive games with the most recent being a 2-1 shootout win last night against the Montreal Canadiens.
Ex-Senator Matt Duchene leads the Stars with 38 points. Roope Hintz leads the Stars with 19 goals.
When the Senators and Stars first played each other 10 days ago, the Senators had a 2-1 lead after the first period concluded. Then, Jamie Benn and Hintz scored in a 1:08 span in the second period to give the Stars a 3-2 lead. Duchene added an insurance goal in the third period to record a two-point game against his former team, and Hintz had two goals in the game as well.
