Senators close out nine-game road trip in Motor City against Red Wings

Losses to the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues have caused the Ottawa Senators to begin 2025 0-2-0 and drop to a 19-17-2 overall record. Now, the final game of the brutal nine-game road trip has arrived.

The Senators now clash with the Detroit Red Wings for the second time this season. After playing four consecutive Central Division teams that are over .500, playing against a divisional foe under .500 after three days of rest could have arrived at the time for the Senators.

Senators clash with Red Wings in Detroit in final game of nine-game road trip

The Senators travel to Little Caesars Arena to take on the Red Wings at 7 p.m. ET. Tonight is the first meeting in Detroit this season between the two teams.

This past Friday against the Blues was a brutal 4-0 shutout loss for the Senators. Anton Forsberg returned in goal and allowed in four goals for the fourth time this season. It was also the sixth consecutive game where Forsberg allowed in at least three goals. Brandon Saad recorded a natural hat trick and Jordan Binnington recorded 20 saves to earn the shutout.

As for the Red Wings, they come into tonight's game with a 17-18-4 record. The Red Wings come into tonight hot by winning their past four consecutive games. The last game was a 4-2 road win against the Central Division leading Winnipeg Jets.

Lucas Raymond leads the Red Wings with 25 assists and 41 points. Ex-Senator Alex DeBrincat leads the Red Wings with 17 goals. Raymond and Dylan Larkin are tied for second for the most goals on the team with 16.

In the first meeting between the Senators and Red Wings on Dec. 5 in Ottawa, the Senators won 2-1. Josh Norris scored both goals in the game for the Senators. Norris' second goal put the Senators up 2-1 with under 45 seconds to play in regulation.
