There are rivalries in every sport. You see them in your way and want to do everything you can to defeat them. You respect your rival, but can't help but hate at the same time.
Rivalries in sports add more excitement and drama for the teams and fans. In the NHL, rivalries are even more personal. One of the Ottawa Senators' biggest rivals are the Buffalo Sabres.
Ottawa and Buffalo are close in distance, and the Senators and Sabres have had intense playoff battles to create a rivalry. One of the most iconic moments of the rivalry was when Ray Emery fought Andrew Peters and Martin Biron in a game in 2007. Now the rivalry has the Senators fans and team beefing with the Sabres on social media over something that most would laugh at.
Senators beef at Sabres over using Song 2 for new goal song
The Sabres announced on Thursday that it would be using two new goal songs for the 2024-25 season prior to their home opener. The Sabres are using two different goal songs based on the jersey they are wearing for the game.
The beef went at the Sabres from the Senators when the Sabres announced they would use the song "Song 2" by Blur. Song 2 has been the goal song of the Senators for years, and the Sabres will use Song 2 for their goal song when they wear their goathead red and black jersey. Irony is that the Senators have red and black in their jersey colors.
When the Sabres made the announcement, it didn't take long for Senators X accounts to get angry at the Sabres.
The official Senators X account couldn't resist making a tweet about the Sabres announcement.
"How dare you," might be an appropriate response from the Senators. For a rival to use the same goal song as you do can get under people's skins. This season, the Sabres will be wearing their goathead jersey 15 times, and ironically not one of the games is against the Senators.
The Senators and Sabres will play each other four times this season with the first game scheduled in Buffalo on Nov. 5. Every Senators and Sabres game adds more drama, but using the same goal song can add more drama.
