Since the 2019-20 season, Ryan Hartman has been an important piece on the Minnesota Wild roster. But, as important as Hartman is to the Wild, he has received some suspensions.
Last season in November and April, Hartman received a suspension. Hartman was suspended for two games after tripping Alex DeBrincat in November. Then in April, Hartman was suspended for three games for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after a stick toss toward the officials.
Now, Hartman finds himself in the middle of yet another potential suspension that could be longer after a dirty play.
Hartman's attempt to injure is suspension worthy
The Ottawa Senators recently crushed the Wild 6-0 at Canadian Tire Centre. However, there is one play from the game that people will remember.
With 16 seconds left to go in the second period, Hartman faced off against Tim Stutzle for a face-off. Hartman can be seen shoving his right elbow into Stutzle's head into the ice. Stutzle received a cut and was bleeding by his left eye after being shoved to the ice.
The referees reviewed the penalty at the end of the period for an attempt to injure. Hartman received a five-minute match penalty for his elbow to the head on Stutzle.
To blow off some steam, the Senators scored three powerplay goals in the opening 2:52 of the third penalty on the five-minute powerplay due to Hartman.
Having an attempt to injure anyone is worthy of a suspension. For Hartman to drive his right elbow to Stutzle to the ice and for Stutzle to get cut by his left eye, is a dangerous and dirty play. Hartman was suspended twice last season, so chances are another suspension could be on the horizon for Hartman.
