Some might forget that in his 16-year career, Peter Bondra played for the Ottawa Senators. After spending 14 seasons with the Washington Capitals, Bondra was traded to the Senators in February 2004.
Bondra recorded 14 points in 23 games for the Senators after the trade, but dissapointed with recording zero points in the 2004 playoffs. After 2004, Bondra spent one season each with the Atlanta Thrashers and the Chicago Blackhawks.
It's been 18 years since Bondra last played an NHL game in the 2006-07 season. Still nearly two decades later, Bondra still has a case to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame one day.
Why Bondra has HOF case
Bondra's career was a solid one with mainly spending time with the Capitals. When his career was done, Bondra recorded 892 points in 1,081 games.
Bondra's most impressive stat in his career is scoring 503 goals. Only 48 players in NHL history have scored 500 career goals, and Bondra being one of them has a case for him to be in the Hall of Fame.
Bondra recorded two 50-goal seasons, two 40-goal seasons and five 30-goal seasons.
To go with his elite goal scoring in his career with being part of the 500-goal club, Bondra led the NHL in scoring twice. The first time came in the 1994-95 season with scoring 34 goals in the lockout 48-game season, and Bondra also led the NHL in shothanded goals that season with six.
The second time Bondra led the NHL in goals came in the 1997-98 season when he was tied with hall of famer Teemu Selanne when both players scored 52 goals. Along with his 52 goals that season, Bondra also led the NHL with 13 game-winning goals.
In 1998, Bondra was a key piece to the Capitals' run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Unfortunately, 1998 was the only time Bondra played in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Bondra also made the All-Star Game five times in his career, including four consecutive All-Star Game appearances from 1996-1999. Bondra also recorded three 80-point seasons.
In the 2000-01 season and 2001-02 season, Bondra led the NHL in powerplay goals. During the two-year span, Bondra scored 39 powerplay goals.
Bondra also had success during International play as well for Slovakia. In 2002, Bondra won gold at the 2002 IIHF World Championship. In 2003, Bondra won bronze.
Although his best hockey wasn't in Ottawa, Bondra deserves to be talked about for getting in the Hall of Fame. Adding Bondra in the Hall of Fame would be another Senator whose legacy lives on forever in the Hall of Fame in Toronto.
