At the 2020 NHL Draft, the Ottawa Senators selected defenseman Jake Sanderson with the fifth overall pick. In just five years, Sanderson has turned into one of the best players on the Senators roster.

Sanderson's play during the 2024-25 season helped the Senators make the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Sanderson got to showcase his game even more during the 4 Nations Face-Off this past February.

Sanderson's name might not be household yet, but it's slowly changing. As the 2025-26 season is months away, Sanderson has more fuel to the fire for the season with the latest odds for him.

Sanderson gets disrespected on FanDuel, tied for 15th best odds for 2026 Norris

In 2024-25, Sanderson finished 10th in Norris Trophy voting. The latest odds on FanDuel for Sanderson may be disrespectful for the 22-year-old. According to FanDuel, Sanderson is tied for the 15th best odds to win the 2026 Norris Trophy with Brock Faber of the Minnesota Wild at +9000.

Sanderson's 2024-25 season was one to remember in Ottawa with his breakout year. Sanderson recorded 57 points, which was the third highest on the Senators roster.

Sanderson's 46 assists in 2024-25 were the second most on the Senators roster. An area that Sanderson thrived in was the powerplay. Thirty of Sanderson's points during the season were powerplay points.

During the 2025 playoffs is where Sanderson had his biggest moment in his NHL career when he scored the overtime winner in Game 4 of the Senators' first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Faber is a solid player to be tied with for the 15th best odds. However, finishing 10th in Norris Trophy voting in 2025 to not having top 10 odds for 2026 is where the disrespect can hit.

Of the 13 players who have higher odds than Sanderson for the 2026 Norris Trophy, Sanderson finished with more points in 2024-25 than four of them (Roman Josi, Noah Dobson, Miro Heiskanen and Thomas Harley). The one defenseman ahead of Sanderson in 2026 Norris Trophy odds who recorded 57 points is Shea Theodore.

After his 57-point season and being a big part of the Senators' 2025 playoff team, Sanderson will have higher expectations and desire to grow his game even more. With the 2026 Norris Trophy odds available, it can be a chip on Sanderson's shoulder to prove the doubters wrong.

Sanderson not being selected over Charlie McAvoy for the 2026 Olympics happened in June. Now, the 2026 Norris Trophy can add more fuel for Sanderson in 2025-26.
