Today, the Ottawa Senators' third preseason game had arrived against the New Jersey Devils in Quebec City, Quebec. It was the first of two preseason games for the Senators in Quebec City.
The Senators were looking to build off of their 3-2 overtime win five days ago against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although the game was a stalemate, the Senators found a way in the end.
The Senators shutout the Devils 2-0 at Videotron Centre. With the win, the Senators improved to 2-1-0 in the 2025 preseason.
Through 40 minutes, the game was a stalemate with the game scoreless. In the final minutes of the third period, a player fighting for a roster spot became clutch.
With 4:26 remaining in regulation, Stephen Halliday scored a powerplay goal to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. Dylan Cozens recorded an assist in back-to-back games by picking up an assist on Halliday's goal.
Then, Olle Lycksell added an empty-net goal with 1:01 remaining to put the game on ice. The goal was Lycksell's second goal of the preseason.
Linus Ullmark recovered from his preseason opening disaster when he allowed in three first period goals last week against the Maple Leafs with recording a 14-save shutout.
The Senators will return to action in the preseason when they take on the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night at Videotron Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The Canadiens are 3-1-0 in the preseason so far with the most recent game being a 4-2 win against the Maple Leafs yesterday in Toronto.
