When the Ottawa Senators traded then captain Jason Spezza to the Dallas Stars in 2014, one of the players the Senators received in return was Alex Chiasson.

In his first full season in Dallas, Chiasson showed his potential by recording 35 points in the 2013-14 season. Chiasson was a big reason why the Stars ended their six-year playoff drought, so the Senators knew they were getting a good young player.

Unfortunately, Chiasson in Ottawa didn't work out and he would go on to play for four different teams after his tenure with Ottawa. Now, Chiasson's time in the NHL has come to an end.

At 34 years old, Chiasson announced his retirement from the NHL yesterday. In 651 career games, Chiasson recorded 233 points. In 2018, Chiasson won a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals.

In Ottawa, Chiasson had high expectations with how he played in Dallas. Chiasson would only play two seasons with the Senators after being traded by the Stars.

In 153 games as a Senator, Chiasson recorded 40 points. Chiasson was a member of the Senators' 2015 playoff team. Against the Montreal Canadiens in the 2015 playoffs, Chiasson recorded no points while playing in four games of the series.

Chiasson last played an NHL game with the Detroit Red Wings in the 2022-23 season. Chiasson also played with the Vancouver Canucks in the 2021-22 season while current Senators head coach Travis Green was the then head coach of the Canucks.
