Last night at home, the Ottawa Senators began their second back-to-back of 2025-26 with a dominating 7-2 win against the Boston Bruins. It was then time to head to the Windy City for a clash against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Last season, the Senators and Blackhawks earned an overtime win against each other. Against a team in a surprising playoff spot early into the season, Connor Bedard showed the Senators why he was the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Blackhawks defeated the Senators 7-3 at United Center. With the loss, the Senators fell to 5-5-1 overall on the season, and had their three-game winning streak snapped.
After a full day off last night, Linus Ullmark got the start in goal, and it got ugly quickly.
In the first period, Ullmark and the Senators were totally dominated. Colton Dach, Louis Crevier and Bedard each scored a goal in a span of just over 11 minutes to give the Blackhawks a 3-0 heading into the first intermission. Ex-Senator Nick Foligno recorded his 600th career point with recording an assist on Dach's goal.
The deficit grew worse for the Senators when Bedard scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-0 less than three minutes into the second period. Then, a scoring barrage happened from the Senators.
Jake Sanderson, Michael Amadio and Tim Stutzle each scored a goal in a span of 3:33 to cut the deficit to 4-3 heading into the second intermission. Ullmark also helped keep the game at one-goal with making some key saves.

Then 3:46 into the third period, Bedard recorded his first career hat trick to put the Blackhawks up 5-3. Ryan Donato and Frank Nazar each scored a goal in the period after Bedard's goal. Bedard recorded an assist on Donato's goal to finish with a four-point game. After scoring seven goals in back-to-back games, the Senators then allowed seven goals tonight in Chicago. Three goals were scored by the Blackhawks in the first period and third period.
Ullmark's October inconsistency returned. After allowing in one goal in each of his past two starts, Ullmark allowed in six goals. If one positive was from the loss, Stutzle made Senators history with passing Chris Phillips for eighth all-time in Senators history in assists.
The Senators return to action on Thursday night to play their final game of October when they host the Calgary Flames. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Canadian Tire Centre.
Last season, the Senators swept the two-game season series against the Flames, and both wins were decided by one-goal.
