The 2024-25 season was a special one for the Ottawa Senators led by their captain Brady Tkachuk. However, the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been rough for Tkachuk and his Senators.

After dropping the first two games of their first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto, the series shifted to Ottawa. Game 3 marked the first time since May 23, 2017, that Canadian Tire Centre hosted a Senators playoff game. Despite a loud crowd, the Senators suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss.

Now, the Senators are trailing 0-3 in the series and have their backs against the wall. However, Tkachuk is still remaining positive by mentioning a legendary sports team from 21 years ago that achieved the impossible.

Tkachuk mentions 2004 Red Sox after Game 3 loss, keeps positivity in locker room

Trailing 0-3 in a playoff series and coming back to win it is never easy. In NHL history, only four teams have ever came back to win a series after trailing 0-3. However, there's one team famous of them all for coming back from 0-3 to win a series. That would be the 2004 Boston Red Sox. After the Game 3 loss, Tkachuk mentioned the 2004 Red Sox.

"It's not too long ago I watched the Red Sox vs Yankees documentary when (the Red Sox) came back from 0-3," Tkachuk said postgame after the loss. "So, it's been done before."

Tkachuk was five years old when the Red Sox did the unthinkable in 2004. The Red Sox came back from 0-3 in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees to win the series in seven games. The Red Sox would win the 2004 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals after defeating the Yankees. It marked Boston's first World Series title in 86 years.

The Red Sox completed an 0-3 series comeback against their biggest rival, the Yankees. Now, the Senators must do the same thing and complete an 0-3 series comeback against their biggest rival, the Maple Leafs. A curse might be around the Senators as they're 0-4 all-time against the Maple Leafs in playoff history, and are 0-9 all-time when they start a series trailing 0-2.

Despite trailing 0-3 in the series, Tkachuk has had a steady 2025 playoffs. Tkachuk's two goals are the most by a Senator in the playoffs. In Game 3 last night, Tkachuk scored the tying goal with 8:38 remaining in regulation.

Sens fans showed their appreciation and love for their captain all night with loud "Brady" chants, but now the team will be relying heavily on their captain to lead the Senators to an 0-3 series comeback.

Game 4 of the Senators-Maple Leafs is set for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET. It's simple, the Senators need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. If not, the Senators will be eliminated and swept by their hated rival in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.
