Goaltending is one of the most important things to help a team win a hockey game. Throughout franchise history, the Ottawa Senators have had their fair share of solid goaltenders.

From Patrick Lalime, to Ray Emery, to Craig Anderson and to Linus Ullmark today. All four goaltenders have gotten their teams to the playoffs at least once in their careers with the Se.

Winning a Vezina Trophy can be hard for any goaltender to win at the end of the day. However, there is one surprising goaltending stat in Senators history that some might not know about, and it could sound shocking.

Senators have never had a 40-win season from a goaltender

In a stat that might sound shocking, the Senators have never had a goaltender in franchise history win 40 games in a season since the Senators came into the NHL in the 1992-93 season.

So, which goaltenders in Senators history have come close to winning 40 games?

Lalime holds the record for most wins in a season by a Senators goaltender with 39 wins back in the 2002-03 season. Lalime had one other season with over 30 wins in the 2000-01 season where he had 36 wins.

Anderson is the only other goaltender in Senators history to have two 30-win seasons. Anderson won 31 games in the 2015-16 season, but his personal best was 33 wins in the 2011-12 season.

Emery is the only Senator to lead his team to the Stanley Cup Finals, and his 33 wins back in the 2006-07 season, in the year the Senators went to the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals, was his only 30-win season as a Senator.

There's one other Senators goaltender that recorded a 30-win season. That would the infamous Martin Gerber back in the 2007-08 season in which Gerber recorded exactly 30 wins.

Brian Elliot is the closest goaltender in Senators history to fall short of a 30-win season when he recorded 29 wins back in the 2009-10 season.

If Dominik Hasek didn't get hurt in the 2006 Olympics, there would've been a realistic chance at a 40-win season. At the time, Hasek recorded 28 wins in 42 starts with the Senators in the 2005-06 season.

Lalime, Anderson, Emery and Gerber are the four goaltenders in Senators history to have recorded a 30-win season in franchise history. With Ullmark on the roster, he can have a shot in the future to win 40 games in a season. Ullmark has won 40 games before in a season, but dealt with injuries in the 2024-25 season to keep him out of the lineup for some time.

While some NHL teams have been lucky to have 40-win seasons from goaltenders, the Senators might not be so on the lucky side for a stat like this.
