As Sunday afternoon arrived, the Ottawa Senators were looking to build off of their 5-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens as they welcomed the Philadelphia Flyers to Ottawa.
The Senators and Flyers each won one game against each other earlier this season. In the third and final meeting between the two teams, a mistake would cost a team that isn't going to the playoffs.
The Senators defeated the Flyers 4-3 in overtime at Canadian Tire Centre. With the win, the Senators improved to 44-30-6 on the season.
Overtime magic has been in the air all season for the Senators. Today, the Senators earned their ninth overtime win of the season.
3. Better performance in goal
Last start against the Columbus Blue Jackets this past Tuesday night, Anton Forsberg struggled deeply. In the Senators' 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets, Forsberg allowed in five goals for the first time all season.
Against the Flyers, Forsberg was better. Forsberg finished with 29 saves to earn his 11th win of the season. Along with earning his 11th win of the season, Forsberg went 2-0-0 against the Flyers this season.
Forsberg has also won two of his last three starts. The Senators needed better goaltending from Forsberg when March started. Forsberg delivered a solid game to keep the Senators in it the entire time.
2. A day for Chabby
Thomas Chabot has been one of Ottawa's most importnat pieces to help clinch a spot in the 2025 playoffs. Against the Flyers, Chabot showed why.
Chabot recorded a three-point game, which included one goal and two assists. Over the past five games, Chabot has recorded nine points.

Chabot's three-point game was his first since Feb. 27, 2023. Chabot scored a pivotal goal with 7:06 remaining to tie the game at three for the Senators. Then, it would be time for the overtime magic to arrive.
1. Rough cold stretch ending
After scoring the overtime winner against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 5, Tim Stutzle went into a deep cold stretch. Stutzle recorded just one goal in the next 18 games that followed. Against the Flyers, Stutzle's goal scoring was back.
After the the Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the second period, Stutzle responded by scoring a goal 53 seconds later to tie the game, but it was in overtime when Stutzle came through.
Nineteen seconds into overtime, the Flyers received a penalty that put the Senators on a 4-on-3 powerplay. At 1:40 into overtime, Stutzle scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Senators the win.

Stutzle's cold stretch with not scoring was a concern, but he came through at pivotal times when the Senators needed him most today. Stutzle is now at 23 goals for this season, which is tied for second on the Senators along with Drake Batherson.
The Senators will return to action on Tuesday night when they host the Chicago Blackhawks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
In the first meeting in Chicago, the Senators won 4-3 with Tim Stutzle scoring the game winner in overtime. The win in Chicago marked the first time since the 2016-17 season that the Senators won in Chicago, which ironically was the last year the Senators made the playoffs before clinching a spot this season.
