Once again SenShot brings to you a closer look at a prospect in the Ottawa Senators system, with this edition of the series looking at Christian Jaros.

Selected by the Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2015 draft, there wasn’t initially much expectation for the Slovakian native Christian Jaros, but he soon proved doubters wrong with his great play in the Swedish Hockey League.

After a couple of mediocre seasons playing for Luleå HF in the SHL,  he really started to shine through in the 2016/17 season where he posted five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 36 games.

Which surprisingly is actually really good for that league considering the leading scorer on his team, Johan Harju, had only 26 points.

Also, it turns out his teammate, Filip Gustavsson, the backup for that club would later be his teammate in Belleville and soon to be in Ottawa.

After that fairly successful campaign in Sweden, Jaros came over to North America to play for the Belleville Senators.

His play was good that year getting three goals and 13 assists in 44 games to go along with just 43 penalty minutes.

Jaros’ play in the AHL that year impressed the organisation enough to see him earn a brief two-game call-up to the NHL club.

In the 2018/19 season, Jaros got a full-time role with the Senators only playing one game for the team’s AHL affiliates in Belleville.

In 61 games with the Sens, he got a modest one goal and nine assists for ten total points. He also had total 27 penalty minutes – showing a very disciplined, defensive blueliner.

Considered by the Senators management as a very defence-first defenceman, they have high hopes for the 23-year-old that one day he could be the defensive partner for phenom Thomas Chabot – who had 55 total points last season.

At 6-foot-3, 201 pounds he can really throw his body around getting 110 hits in only 61 games. He can also be a very versatile defender, blocking an impressive 82 shots.

Jaros has not yet played top minutes for the Ottawa Senators, averaging just 14:22 while on the ice in 2018/19, but he is expected to earn a larger role this season if he continues his impressive development.
