Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot to play for Canada
The Ottawa Senators will have yet another player represent them at the upcoming World Championships with Thomas Chabot named to Team Canada.
Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot has been named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2019 World Championships set to take place in Slovakia.
He is the third Senators player to be named to his country’s team after Colin White (USA) and Christian Jaros (Slovakia).
Chabot has been named one of seven defencemen that will be tasked with helping Canada improve on last year’s fourth-place finish in the competition.

The call-up is a fitting reward for the Sainte-Marie, Quebec native – who stepped up and showed he is ready to be a top pairing player in the NHL.
After averaging 17:31 while on the ice during his rookie season, Chabot carried the load in his second full campaign – with his 24:17 average ice time leading all skaters, almost two full minutes more than Cody Ceci.
Chabot scored 14 goals and registered an impressive 55 total points – seeing him finish tenth in scoring among defencemen in the NHL.
In Chabot’s increased role with the Senators, he blocked 112 shots and threw 71 hits – putting his 6-foot-2, 196lbs frame to good use.
The 22-year-old is a cornerstone piece to the Ottawa Senators roster and could be a potential captain candidate further down the line if he continues to grow and fill the void left behind by Erik Karlsson as well as he did last season.
Selected 18th overall in the 2015 entry draft, Chabot will now be tasked with competing with the likes of Darnell Nurse, Shea Theodore and Brandon Montour for ice time in the upcoming World Championships.
Seeing Chabot represent his country at the tournament should be a proud moment for the Ottawa Senators and hopes will be that he remains unscathed and has a strong competition – helping to boost his confidence before going on his summer break.
