The Ottawa Senators have finally done what seemed to be impossible in recent weeks. They have won two games in a row after a great showing against the Montreal Canadiens.

The NHL 100 Classic has come and gone, and the Ottawa Senators got out with two important points. The 3-0 victory gave the Sens back to back victories for the first time since their trip to Sweden.

First Period

The whole game was strong for the Ottawa Senators and the start was no different as they were the dominant team in the first period. The Sens out shot the Habs 14 to 8 in the first period and set the tone for a strong performance. However, the Sens were up against the best goalie in the world in Carey Price and it became clear early it would be difficult to score goals. As a result, the game remained scoreless after one period.

Second Period

The second period saw the Ottawa Senators once again outshot the Habs, this time 15 to 8. The difference this time is the Sens were able to get one on the board. A deflected shot off the faceoff allowed Pageau to open the scoring and give the Sens an early lead. The period ended with the Sens up 1-0.

Third Period

The third period saw the Montreal Canadiens make a push to comeback but Anderson shut the door. Then with three minutes remaining Bobby Ryan stripped the puck from a Montreal defender and scored to give the Sens a late 2-0 lead. The Sens would add an empty netter to win 3-0.

A Big Two Points

This was a huge win for the Ottawa Senators as they were able string together wins for the first time in more than a month. Additionally, it was against a divisional rival. Going forward the Sens will need to win lots of games and specifically they can’t lose to divisional teams. If they can succeed in that aspect they have a chance to make the playoffs.
