Ottawa Senators Lose Third Straight Versus New York Rangers
The Ottawa Senators squandered every opportunity to score last night against the New York Rangers. Eventually they fell by the score of 3-0 for their third straight loss.
Since returning from Sweden the Ottawa Senators have struggled to get their feet under them. They have lost all three games since returning, including a shutout loss to the Rangers last night.
First Period
The first period was the best for the Sens. They kept the game even and Anderson came up with some big saves. The chances were there but a failure to score on two powerplays kept the score at 0-0.
Second Period
The second period saw the New York Rangers open the scoring five minutes in. Down a goal the Sens killed a penalty but were unable to get their feet under them and the score remained at 1-0 for the remainder of the period.
Third Period
The third period was an atrocious one for the Ottawa Senators. Grabner scored five minutes in to give the Rangers a two goal lead. However, the Sens were given a prime opportunity to tie the game with a five minute powerplay. In this time the Sens managed just one shot. Once again, the Sens showed their inability to perform on the powerplay. With the Sens failing to answer back they pulled the goalie with under three minutes left, but he Rangers cored an empty netter to close out the game. Thus, giving the Sens a 3-0 loss and third straight loss.
Mark Borowiecki
During the game Mark Borowiecki left the game with what was probably a concussion after being knocked out during the third period. If he is out long term it sets the Sens even further back with Wideman already out.

A Team In Free Fall
With the loss today, the Sens fell out of a playoff spot for the first time this season. Although they have games in hand on the teams in front of them there is no longer room for error. This team needs to figure out how to string wins together soon or they will fall out of the playoff picture.
