In their first game against the Vegas Golden Knights in franchise history, the Ottawa Senators fell by the score of 5-4.
It was just the Ottawa Senators third regulation loss of the season as Vegas found themselves in the win column once again. Their goaltending continued to be solid despite playing with their fourth string goalie.
First Period
The first period was different from most this season for the Ottawa Senators. Where the Sens normally got out to an early lead, this time they faced an early deficit. Vegas scored five minutes in to give the Golden Knights an early lead. There would be no more scoring in the first period and the Sens headed to intermission down a goal.
Second Period
The second period saw the game explode offensively. Stone scored just 21 seconds in to tie the game. However, the Golden Knights answered back to five Vegas a 2-1 lead. The two teams then traded goals to end the period and Vegas headed into intermission with a 3-2 lead.
Third Period
The third period saw the Ottawa Senators fall out of the game. Vegas scored two goals early in the period to give them a 5-2 lead. The Sens began to mount a comeback and even brought the score to within one, but time was not on their side and they fell 5-4.
Penalty Trouble
The story of the night was a disparity in penalties. Vegas had five powerplays and scored three times. The Ottawa Senators had just two powerplays and converted neither time. While Anderson might have been underwhelming, this game was lost because the Sens got into penalty trouble.
