Tonight in pre-season action the Ottawa Senators take on the Montreal Canadiens. They come into the night after a three day break from games after sweeping the Toronto Maple Leafs in a back to back.

The last time that the Ottawa Senators played they had just dispatched of the Toronto Maple Leafs easily in both games of the back to back. Now the Montreal Canadiens come to Ottawa where they will play in pre-season action.

As pre-season and training camp has gone on the roster has gotten smaller. However, there are still a large number of players fighting for roster spots this season.

Forwards

Tonight the roster is as follows, at forward: Bobby Ryan, Tom Pyatt, Zack Smith, Mike Blunden, Chris VandeVelde, Max Reinhart, Logan Brown, Alex Formenton, Mark Stone, Tyler Randell, Mike Hoffman, Filip Chlapik, and Max McCormick. There’s a healthy mix of established NHL players and rookies trying to play their way into the lineup.

Defencemen

On defence the Sens will be icing, Cody Ceci, Chris Wideman, Jonny Oduya, Maxime Lajoie, Ben Harpur, Thomas Chabot, and Mark Borowicki.

Goalies

In goal the Sens have Mike Condon, Andrew Hammond, and Craig Anderson as options. Whichever two are selected will each play half the game.

Players To Watch

The interesting part of the lineup tonight is the defence. The only player that has his spot completely guaranteed is Cody Ceci. Other than him there are four or five players that have to show the coaching staff that they’re deserving of a spot in the lineup.

The most interesting players to watch tonight will be Thomas Chabot and Logan Brown. Both have prime opportunities due to injuries to make the opening night roster. However, if they falter over the next few weeks they won’t have that spot waiting for them. At the moment it’s their spots to lose. The Ottawa Senators will give them every chance to make the roster.
