It may just be August but the 2017-2018 NHL season will be on our hands before we know it. Training Camp will start in September and all the players will be brought together as they prepare for another season. With August as a down month in the NHL I thought this would be a great time to preview each of the players on the Ottawa Senators for next season.
If you missed it here’s our last preview!
Ottawa Senators: Chris Wideman 2017-2018 Season Preview
Thomas Chabot has been pegged as the next star on defence for not just the Ottawa Senators, but for the NHL. When lists are made of the best prospects among all NHL teams, Chabot consistently ranks in the top five. However, a prospect is just that, a prospect. All his achievements will mean nothing if he can’t convert them to the NHL. Fortunately for Chabot, it looks like he shouldn’t have trouble with doing just that.
Chabot will enter the season after a spectacular final year in junior. He was named the best defenceman and MVP of the QMJHL. He received the same accolades for his performance at the World Junior Championships. With the way he’s been performing it looks as if the Sens could have one of the most dynamic one-two punches in the league on defence for years to come. However, there’s his spot for next year is not completely secure.
Going into training camp Chabot will have to compete with a mix of veterans and up and coming players. Guys such as Mark Borowiecki will be looking to keep their spot in the lineup. Players such as Fredrik Claesson are looking to make a name for their selves.

Thomas Chabot is a star in the making for the Ottawa Senators, but he will not be handed his spot in the lineup. If other players come to training camp and are better, then he’ll spend the year in the AHL. I personally believe that Chabot should be in the NHL this season and he will stand out at training camp. However nothing is certain, Chabot will have to come to camp and earn it.
