Thoughts On P.K. Subban, Gary Bettman Discusses Outdoor Game In Ottawa

Ottawa Citizen “Bettman speaks on relocation, concussions, outdoor game in Ottawa” – The Canadian Press

Submission: Jack Leiper

The Ottawa Citizen recaps Gary Bettman’s pre-game chat with the media. Bettman touched on numerous topics, including NHL expansion and the league’s interest in holding an outdoor game in Ottawa, which is something else to be excited for in the future.

"The Take: Very interesting to see Gary Bettman speak in Ottawa as he attended game 6. He raised some interesting points, but one that was left out of the title was the resource known as Capgeek. Bettman was asked about it, but like in the past dismissed the NHL looking to become the official source to contract numbers, similar to capgeek in the past. While this makes sense for the owners and the teams, we see two sides to it. The way the Ottawa Senators have handled it has been a full disclosure policy, where Eugene Melnyk and Bryan Murray have openly spoken on numbers and revealed them to the media, however the NHL has been more closed about contract numbers. Heck, would you like it if your employer published your salary in a public fashion? Probably not."

Habs Eyes On The Prize “Habs fail to close out series in embarrassing fashion” – Andrew Berkshire

Submission: Travis Valois

Andrew Berkshire at Habs Eye On The Prize dicusses the ludicrous way in which Michelle Therrien used the Canadiens players in Game 5. The Habs Coach makes many illogical decisions.

"The Take: The reverse sweep was certainly close. The game 5 win came at the height of Ottawa’s momentum as Montreal was able to stop Ottawa during last night’s first period. Berkshire from HEOTP discussed game 5 and sourced the usage of depth players as contributing to the loss. Specifically, Torrey Mitchell and Brian Flynn were used heavily after a nice game one. In game 6, however Flynn found himself in the press-box, as Montreal then closed out the series.A nice way to finish it off for Montreal, an easier situation than being forced to a game 7, anyways."

Bonk’s Mullet “P.K. Subban vows to Shoot Harder, Turtle Farther” – Rob Poirer

Submission: Trevor Shackles

Bonk’s Mullet has another brilliant piece, with a guest appearance from Rob Poirier. The topic this time is PK Subban vowing to shoot harder and turtle farther. I love it, it’s just what we need to keep the mood playful.

"The Take: P.K. Subban said it best during last night’s wrap-up interview. “Carey Price was the difference” and he’s completely right. The Habs have an elite goalie in Price, and he stole them this series. Subban however was for the most part a non-factor during this series. So, the guys at Bonk’s mullet rightfully pick at P.K. Subban, not a leader on the Canadiens."

SB Nation “3 Things We Learned From The Flames’ Win” – Pat Iverson

Submission: Jay Nowak

Pat Iversen of SBNation has a great piece on the Calgary Flames and what everyone learned about this team after beating Vancouver in 6 games.

"The Take: What a team they have in Calgary. Incredible. In looking at the two teams in the province, it’s been made so much of the differences between the Flames and the Oilers. The Flames haven’t had any super-high picks and the Oilers of course have. But looking at their drafting and development systems we see the Flames in the second round of the playoffs and the Oilers in the basement of the NHL. Again. This flames team could scare some people. They have a hard series coming up against Anaheim, but considering what they’ve done without Mark Giordano, this team won’t go down easy."

Ottawa Senators: 5 Things To Be Proud Of – I totally agree with Jay in his analysis in this piece. Awesome stuff, and although the season is over, you can’t say Ottawa didn’t put up a fight. Bobby Ryan had a poor end of the year, but can only bounce back next season. Take a look at Jay’s post. Jay – 5 things to be proud of.

The Senators’ Season Ended Abruptly, But Our Hopes Didn’t – Trevor’s piece is similar to Jay’s in the sense that it touches on hopes for the future and the seasons success. Specifically, Trevor mentions the names Patrick Wiercioch and Erik Condra who may have bought themselves new lives in Ottawa based on their late season play. Trevor – Hopes.

Can Chris Phillips Contribute To The Ottawa Senators Again? Chris Phillips – Contribute?
