Dallas stepped up in this one. Former Ottawa Senators, Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky both recorded points, while Dallas’ top line was relatively quiet.

Ales Hemsky made the game 2-1, but Jared Cowen extended Ottawa’s lead by another just before the end of the 1st. 3-1 after 20 for Ottawa.

Dallas continued to be a force in the 2nd, we saw early pressure where Gord Miller announced that Dallas was the highest scoring 2nd period team in the NHL. This was evident during this game.

With 4 unanswered goals, Dallas soared to a 5-3 lead in 20 minutes. John Klingberg, Dallas’ young swede registered 2 goals in the period, with Erik Cole and Trevor Daley getting the others. 5-3 after two.

Ottawa made things interesting in the 3rd. Milan Michalek gave Ottawa a glimmer of hope on Ottawa’s hot PP, making the game 5-4.

Despite, a late 3rd period push Ottawa falls to Dallas 5-4.

GAME NOTES

  • Jared Cowen’s goal displayed a nice effort by Mark Stone. He has picked up his game of late.
  • Dallas’ top line was very quiet tonight. Weird to see with 2 true superstars in Benn/Seguin.
  • Ales Hemsky’s name was called frequently on the broadcast. He had a good game.
  • Chiasson was moved off the top-line. He’s not a fit there
  • Ottawa Senators who had poor games: Curtis Lazar, Cody Ceci
  • Ottawa Senators who had good games: JG Pageau, Mike Hoffman
  • I think Jared Cowen will be just fine. Nice infographic from TSN during play-by-play. He leads OTT in hits over past 4 seasons.
  • Marc Methot was shaken up in the 2nd, but did return. Let’s hope this doesn’t affect his status.

UP NEXT

The Sens conclude their road trip and head back home to meet the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes. Playoff hopes are looking very dim at this point, making talk of acquiring another piece bizarre to myself and others.
