Colorado Avalanche Roll Over Ottawa Senators In A 5-2 Victory

The Ottawa Senators were flat once again. And after a 3-game winning streak, the Senators are in the middle of another rut in a season that has been full of them.

Ottawa controlled play for the most part, as seen in their good Corsi and SOG statistics, but that didn’t matter in the end as Colorado took this one 5-2.

GAME RECAP

The first wasn’t pretty, and neither was this game. A very dull, ugly game took place in Denver tonight. Colorado got off to a 2-0 lead in the first, on goals from Jarome Iginla and Brad Stuart. Iginla scored his 11th of the season on a goal that beat Craig Anderson through a screen.

Ottawa scored 3 minutes into the 2nd, where a goal by Mark Stone marked his 10th of the year and a 2-1 lead for Colorado.

More from SenShot

Erik Johnson couldn’t deal with a 1 goal lead and decided to put the puck past Craig Anderson on a point shot that found it’s way in. Overall, tonight wasn’t a game where Goaltending helped Ottawa as we saw the end of Anderson’s night after 3 goals.

There on out.. it was a similar story.

The third had a few quick goals. One from Jarome Iginla and another answered by Bobby Ryan. It was Daniel Briere who scored to make it 5-2 Colorado with 16 minutes to go.

Ottawa falls in this one, and it certainly wasn’t rare to see tweets mentioning “Tank”, “McDavid”, or “Eichel” while referring to the Sens tonight.

GAME NOTES

  • Alex Chiasson has frustrated the fan base, perhaps it is due to his usage.. but he is the “in” guy to blame/pick on.
  • Time to make a few Roster moves/changes. I’m ok with a trade.
  • Ryan O’Reilly is a great hockey player without the puck. The American Play X Play crew certainly highlighted this.
  • Erik Karlsson‘s P/60 at 5v5 total is concerning. 98th in the league.
  • Dave Cameron was animated on the bench at times. Frustration clearly setting in.
  • The price of gas is cheap, in good news.

UP NEXT

The Senators are nearly at the half-way point of the season. Unless something changes, look for the story to remain the same. The Senators are a mediocre NHL team. Don’t expect a tank, and I wouldn’t expect the playoffs.
