Ottawa Senators Top Boston Bruins 3-2 In OT; Bobby Ryan With The Winner

Jack Edwards isn’t going to be happy about this one. The enthusiasm felt in Boston today was great, but the Ottawa Senators came out on top as Bobby Ryan ended it in Overtime.

GAME RECAP

The first started off slow, no goals heading into the second. Chances in favour of Boston as they led the shot count 6-3.

Off to the second, where Kyle Turris opened up the scoring. Turris found a way to sneak one past Tuukka Rask, leading to his 8th goal of the season. The second would end in a draw, as Torey Krug found a goal on the powerplay. 1-1 after 2.

Boston got off to a good start in the 3rd, as Brad Marchand gave Boston a 2-1 lead that would last until 15:45 of the 3rd period. Marchand’s goal is his 11th of the year as he continues to lead Boston in that department.

It was Ottawa’s leading scoring who tied it up. Mike Hoffman netted his 12th of the season in a goal that was tipped from an Eric Gryba point shot. Hoffman’s speed and control was often noted by the Bruins play-by-play crew today, as he continues to make his name heard around the NHL.

2-2 at the end of regulation, and off to OT we went.

As OT started, a nice little graphic on NESN reminded us that Boston was 5-1 in OT this season. Ottawa’s record of 4-2 improved today as it was Bobby Ryan who out worked Zdeno Chara in front of the net to earn his 11th goal of the year.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Bobby Ryan had a nice game, and his unit was solid. After a slow start in the goal scoring department, Ryan is now on pace for 26 goals.
  • Alex Chiasson has been cold, going pointless in his last 9 and having only 4 points in his last 15.
  • Chiasson has mainly played on the 4th line since Dave Cameron took over.
  • Mike Hoffman is making a name for himself around the NHL. His speed is incredible.
  • Tuukka Rask is a great goaltender, if you didn’t know. Some highlight reel saves today.
  • This team is not tanking.

The Ottawa Senators go home to face the Tampa Bay lightning, a game that should not be easy. Of note is that former Senator, Ben Bishop was pulled after a 3 goal/10 shot performance yesterday.
