A big win for the Ottawa Senators tonight, as they lift a winless monkey off their back.
GAME RECAP
The game got off to a start against the favour of Ottawa. The game was fairly steady, until a rush for the Canucks led to a 1-0 lead. It was Radim Vrbata danced around Craig Anderson with a nice more, giving the Canucks the lead.
0:45 seconds later, it was Kevin Bieksa widening the gap for Vancouver. A slapshot from the point made its way through, where Craig Anderson was beat again. Anderson’s historical record against Vancouver has not been pretty as he posts a 3-11-1 record with a 3.50 GAA.

The Canucks had Sens fans calling for Connor McDavid again, after they took a 3-0 lead. It was Brad Richardson with the goal in the early 2nd, as he continues to be an impactful player for the Canucks.
It was the powerplay king himself, and mr. 1000 games who made the game 3-1. David Legwand raised the puck over Eddie Lack’s pad and led the start to Ottawa’s comback. Mika Zibanejad made a game out of it with Ottawa’s 2nd goal which came as a lucky bounce into the net. Zibanejad tied the game at 3-3 with another goal which came off a feed from Bobby Ryan.
Suddenly, Zibanejad finds himself 3rd on team scoring with 5 goals in his last 6 games. The 3rd period resulted in nothing, and off to overtime we were.
Erik Karlsson takes the puck from Mika Zibanejad in Overtime and buries it. Ottawa wins for the first time in 5 games, and Coach MacLean is happy.
NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
- Bobby Ryan had a great game, recording 2 assists.
- I think Paul MacLean iced the ideal lineup tonight. Ottawa’s top 9 was solid.
- Kyle Turris struggled tonight, he hasn’t had a great start to the season and neither has Ottawa.
- Erik Karlsson had one of his better games, 8 SOG and the OT winner for him
- Sens have a tough schedule ahead Los Angeles on Thursday, Bruins to follow.
- Alex Chiasson showed great pressure late in the 3rd, I liked his game.
The Ottawa Senators remain at home to face Los Angeles, and then travel to Boston to take on the Bruins. Tonight was a big win for this team, and they will look to continue on tonight’s success.
