The Senators have dropped their last two. The first came against a hot Winnipeg team and the second was a painful loss to the Maple Leafs in a rescheduled match from Oct 22nd. During that time, Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman have been hot.

More from SenShot

Mark Stone is 2nd in Senators scoring, with 4 goals. His game has been consistent and he’s found his groove in the NHL. For a guy who was found out of Brandon of the WHL in the 6th round, Stone is shaping up to be a great NHL player.

Mark Stone’s game is great up the middle of the ice as his size comes to use. At 6foot3, so much has been made about Stone’s skating and room for improvement. Bobby Ryan’s game has received very similar critiques.

Stone leads the Senators in P/60 in the early going at 2.75, the player who follows is Mike Hoffman with 2.60.

Hoffman, like Stone was a player found in the late rounds of the draft. A 5th rounder from 2009 is Hoffman, where his game took time to develop. Hoffman is a Kitchener, On native and was cut from his local Kitchener Rangers at age 16. After a move to the QMJHL and a solid junior campaign, the Senators drafted him.

Mike Hoffman dominated the AHL last season, but couldn’t find success in the NHL. This season has had peaks and valleys for Hoffman, he’s seen the bench and the pressbox; but has scored of late.

Looking at some analytices via Stats.HockeyAnalysis.com we see that Mike Hoffman is 4th in the league with ICorsi/60 at EVS this season.

Hoffman is generating over 10 more ICorsi events per 60 minutes than any other Senator this season. He’s also leading the Senators in CF% at 52.9 on a Senators team which has been a negative Corsi team all season.

Mike Hoffman is 24, and Mark Stone is 22. The two wingers have the tools to play in an NHL top 6 role for quite some time.

Marc Methot Eye-ing Return

Methot has been out of the lineup all season. His injury can be traced back to last years World Championships and training camp. Methot’s return should come with in the next few weeks, seeing he is now travelling with the team.

The Sens are in a small skid and defence has shown its weakness at times. Marc Methot could easily jump into the Senators lineup and stabilize things. To ease Methot into the lineup is an option, potentially slotting him where he normally wouldn’t play.
