The Senators roster now sits at 24 as Marc Methot ails an injury. Methot has been out since the start of Training camp after injuries from last season still affect the 29-year-old defender.

The injury comes in a contract year for Methot, and with the severity still relatively unknown it’s up in the air if this could affect his contract negotiation.

This Injury has not progressed so far, and Methot’s return to the lineup is unknown. The Senators roster of 24 is above the league maximum and a roster move will have to occur. An impending roster move has brought up talk that Colin Greening may be on his way out of Ottawa.

Garrioch goes in-depth on Greening’s situation, and Ottawa’s continued interest in Sabres F Chris Stewart in his Sun post from Wednesday.

Greening has found his way into 2 games this season, and hasn’t impressed. His salary of 2.65 Million over the next 3 seasons is not attractive and it will be hard to trade Greening.

Ottawa, in being a Cap team can continue to pay him and if the expected return isn’t high maybe they waive Greening and wish him the best. Greening has been a great teammate and player for the Senators the past few seasons, but didn’t get it done on the ice last season; leaving him on the inside looking out.

Mark Stone to stay:

One thing that won’t be happening, is Mark Stone being sent to Binghamton. Via Sylvain St Laurent (@Syl_st_laurent), the Senators have informed Mark Stone that he can look for a place to live in Ottawa. The news is good for the Senators and Stone, but not so much for Greening.

Greening is essentially Ottawa’s only sensible move at this point. Erik Condra is a pending UFA and could be traded easily, the Senators like him but he may not have a future with the club based on depth. Sadly.

Cody Ceci is a full-time NHL player, and none of Ottawa’s defenders would clear waivers. Patrick Wiercioch would be a possibility to trade, but Greening would be the first to go.

Ben Harpur signs ELC:

Ben Harpur, Ottawa’s 4th rounder from 2013 has signed his Entry Level deal. Harpur is currently out nursing an injury, but continues to be a World Junior candidate. Harpur is not an offensive style defenceman and should compete for a spot on Binghamton next season.
