SenShot NHL Mock Draft Pick #11 – Philadelphia Flyers

With the 11th pick we turn to a very disappointing team who dropped significantly in the 2013 season after having some success in 2011-12.

#11 – PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

TEAM STRENGTHS:  Offensive depth

TEAM WEAKNESSES: Inconsistent goaltending, defensive depth, cap trouble

FANSIDED MOCK DRAFT PICK: Broad Street Buzz  selected Rasmus Ristolainen

SENSHOT’S CHOICE: Zachary Furcale from the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.  The last time the Flyers drafted a goalie that played more than one game in the NHL was Roman Cechmanek.  Roman Freakin’ Cechmanek, in 2000 (although they did sign Sergei Bobrovsky as a free agent).  They have drafted 15 goalies since then, and they have played a total of 2 NHL games.  No team, not even the Senators has had goalie problems like the Flyers.  I am not saying Furcale is the answer, but he is a top 10 prospect on most lists in a shallow goalie pool.  His numbers might be a bit skewed by the fact that he has a great team in front of him, but Furcale has solid skills and a good track record.  Goalies are a crapshoot at the best of times, but to not have drafted a tender for 13 years that has had any impact is a bit extreme.
