After shipping off a couple of veterans at the trade deadline, the Dallas Stars are in the middle of a youth movement…or so you would have thought before trading for and signing 39 year old Sergei Gonchar. Still, new GM Jim Nill will have the 10 overall pick to begin putting his stamp on the franchise.
#10 – DALLAS STARS

TEAM STRENGTHS: Youthful defense, young prospects
TEAM WEAKNESSES: scoring, leadership
HOCKEY’S FUTURE ORGANIZATIONAL PROSPECT RANK: 12th of 30 teams
UNDER CONSIDERATION: Zachary Fucale, Elias Lindholm, Alexander Wennburg, Hunter Shinkaruk
FANSIDED MOCK DRAFT PICK: Blackout Dallas selected Nikita Zadorov
SENSHOT’S CHOICE: Hunter Shinkaruk from Medicine Hat of the WHL. The Stars have amassed a lot of young prospect, but Shinkaruk might be the biggest “sure thing” among the forwards of that group. Playing on a perennially bad Tigers team, Shinkaruk was their best player and like Sean Monahan, his stats don’t reflect his true abilities. He is versatile and can fit anywhere in a lineup, which will give whoever is the Dallas coach when he makes his mark some options.
