SenShot’s Take
If he had still been on the board when I picked with the next selection, Maatta was who I was going to go with for the Senators. The Flames get a smooth skating puck moving defenseman who will get more opportunity to develop next year after Jarred Tinordi leaves the Knights. Maatta played behind Tinordi and Scott Harrington this year but still was among the leading rookie scorers in the OHL. The OHL Champions could be even stronger next year and Maatta will play a large part in defending that title.
Maatta is probably a couple of years away from a regular NHL job, but like many of this year’s first rounders, once he arrives he will be around for a long time to come.
