On May 1, the Ottawa Senators were eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs in six games by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite being eliminated, making the playoffs for the first time in eight years was a step in the right direction.
What could potentially sting a franchise is seeing former players having success elsewhere after leaving. The Senators have seen their fare share of former players have success after leaving. From Marian Hossa, to Zdeno Charo, to Mark Stone and many more.
The Senators are watching the rest of the 2025 playoffs at home. Now, the Senators have two former players that have the chance to make the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals in the Western Conference.
Two ex-Senators with the last name Brown make 2025 WCF
Two current players on the Edmonton Oilers who spent part of their NHL careers with the Senators are Connor Brown and Josh Brown. With Kasperi Kapanen scoring the overtime winner in Game 5 to give the Oilers a 1-0 win, both Connor and Josh are off to the Western Conference Finals as the Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round of the 2025 playoffs.
Connor spent three seasons with the Senators from 2019-2022. During those three seasons, Connor was a productive player on Ottawa.
In 191 games as a Senator, Connor recorded 117 points. Connor's 2019-20 season in which he recorded 43 points is his career high for a single season. After his Senators tenure ended in 2022, Connor would play in four games for the Washington Capitals in the following 2022-23 season.
For the past two seasons, Connor has been a member of the Oilers. Connor and the Oilers fell in the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers, but have another shot to win the Stanley Cup this season with being in the Western Conference Finals.
For Josh, he spent two seasons in Ottawa before being traded to the Boston Bruins in the middle of the 2021-22 season. In 72 games as a Senator, Josh recorded just seven assists. This season, Josh joined the Oilers, but only played in 10 games during the regular season.
While Connor has been a staple in the Oilers' lineup in the playoffs with recording seven points in 11 games, the same can't quite be said for Josh. Of the Oilers' 11 playoff games, Josh has only played in one of the games and went pointless.
Connor, Josh and the Oilers will now wait for their Western Conference Finals opponent which will either be the Dallas Stars or Winnipeg Jets series. The Stars currently lead the series 3-1 with Game 5 being in Winnipeg tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET.
