After being eliminated in six games by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Ottawa Senators have been watching the rest of the playoffs from home.

It can always sting a team to see former players have a deep playoff run with another team with a chance to win the Stanley Cup.

While no former Senators were able to have a chance to win the Stanley Cup coming out of the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals, five former Senators had a chance to advance to the 2025 Stanley Cup in the 2025 Western Conference Finals. Now, two of them will have a chance to win the 2025 Stanley Cup.

Oilers make 2025 Stanley Cup with two former Senators on roster

After winning four consecutive games after losing Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals to the Dallas Stars, the Edmonton Oilers are off to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second consecutive season with their 6-3 win in Game 5. The 2025 Stanley Cup Finals will feature a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup between the Oilers and the defending champion Florida Panthers.

Edmonton winning the Western Conference now gives the chance for former Senators Connor Brown and Josh Brown to win the Stanley Cup. The Oilers ended the hopes of former Senators Matt Duchene, Cody Ceci and Evgenii Dadonov to win the Stanley Cup.

Connor played in 191 games for the Senators in three seasons from 2019-2022. Josh played in 72 games for the Senators before he was traded to the Boston Bruins in the 2021-22 season.

Connor was part of the Oilers' run to the Stanley Cup last season and is looking for redemption. Connor has missed the past two playoff games due to an upper-body injury. Connor has recorded eight points in 14 games during the 2025 playoffs.

This season was Josh's first season with Edmonton. Josh played in just 10 games for the Oilers in the regular season. Josh did play the first game of the first round for the Oilers against the Los Angeles Kings, but hasn't played since.

Connor and Josh now have the chance to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in their careers if the Oilers win and get redemption against the Panthers. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals begins on June 4 at 8 p.m. ET at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
