Ottawa Senators Top Arizona 5-1 In Slump-Busting Effort

Don’t be prepared to call McDavid’s name to the stage in June just yet.

Ottawa took a much needed W tonight, and after going three games without one it comes as a refresh for Sens fans. With a PP that has been cold, 0-for-28 to be exact; Ottawa registered two PP tallies against a western bottom feeder tonight.

GAME RECAP

Phoenix got on the board first, and after that.. it was all Ottawa. Arizona’s one and only goal came from Mikkel Boedker as he snaked his way through the Ottawa defence.

His 12th of the season was one that left Jared Cowen looking silly as Boedker made it 1-0.

5 unanswered goals were coming Ottawa’s way…

Starting it off was Milan Michalek who ended Ottawa’s PP drought. Michalek recorded just his 4th goal of the season. Of note is that the Senators aren’t in the business of paying Michalek $1,000,000 per goal, someone in the office is regretting that deal.

Michalek hasn’t been a liability on this team, but after a 17-goal campaign last year, it looks “Milo’s” offensive days are done.

MacArthur scored, then Hoffman, and Ceci. MacArthur gets his 12th of the season, and Hoffman gets his 14th. Hoffman was just named to the NHL’s All-star team, and continues to lead the team in scoring.

Ceci’s goal is just his 2nd this year, and at just 20-years-old.. Ceci is beginning to mold his Junior game to the NHL level.

David Legwand added another goal to make it 5-1 in an upbeat win for the Ottawa Senators.

GAME NOTES

  • Mika Zibanejad had a 2 point performance. That’s nice to see.
  • Alex Chiasson has 5 points in the 2nd quarter of the season.
  • Kyle Turris is not a popular man in Arizona. We like him in Ottawa, though.
  • Ottawa’s playoff chances aren’t great, a season similar to 13-14 is looking very possible.
  • Erik Karlsson had a great Corsi showing. At one point, he was a +24 Corsi Differential and at 88% CF%
