Don’t Wanna Be A Canadian Idiot: Leafs 4, Senators 3(OT)
It’s sad that the Sens are now 6 points behind the Leafs in the standings and even though there is time to vault over Toronto in the standings, it still is just sad. Goals by Ryan Shannon, Jarkko Ruutu, and Daniel Alfredsson almost did the trick for the Sens, but alas, a lead is a lead, and when you’re not drunk on your success, you can keep it. But tonight, the Sens were drunk. and they were plowed on it. Turnovers really cost the Sens the game tonight. One really bad play by the attractive commodity Filip Kuba led to [...]
Ottawa looking at acquiring Ladislav Smid
First, the Ottawa Sun reported that the Edmonton Oilers were interested in Christoph Schubert and the return asking price would be the stay-at-home defenseman Ladislav Smid. I was talking to someone who said “This could be a bigger deal and that Ottawa really wants to pair him up with Volchenkov”. He has been compared to Volchie previous years and can handle the puck well also. And you know MacT would love to get rid of him for a bigger body in Schubert. Smid has scored 21 points in 188 games in his 3-year career. His statistics have gone south since [...]
Fear The Fin: Sharks 2, Senators 1
The Sens played good against a team like the San Jose Sharks, the league’s best team. It wasn’t as much as a disappointing as if a 2-1 loss to the Thrashers would have been, but a loss is a loss. Mike Fisher got a goal from the re-direct from lightning-quick Chris Campoli’s shots to open the scoring and lead by 1 after 1. But two quick Power Play goals by the Sharks after The General breaks down lead to the Sharks win. Dany Heatley had some good chances. Daniel Alfredsson had some good chances. Nick Foligno had some good chances. [...]
Shadows In The Night
Last year, the Sens took the Sharks to overtime when Johnathan Cheechoo cashed in with the overtime winner. Tonight, the Sharks are the league’s best team and have changed a lot from with new coach Todd McClellan. The Sharks are coming off a 4-1 loss to the ever-embattled Detroit Red Wings last night. It should play for some fatigue, especially since I heard they arrived in Ottawa in the peak of midnight. Coupled that they’re facing a victorious, well rested Ottawa team, the stars may be aligned for a win tonight. Alex Auld will make his second straight start tonight [...]
Alexandre Picard to be traded tomorrow?
With Chris Campoli’s acquisition and Brendan Bell listed over him in the depth chart, Alexandre Picard’s days are numbered. It’s not secret some teams have expressed interest in the young defenseman from Laval but it seems like the return won’t be too high. He’s scored 14 points this season, and has scored the most goals for a defenseman for the Sens this year. Many teams like Phoenix and Boston have interest in Picard’s former partner- in- crime, Filip Kuba, but if the asking price becomes too high, teams might go after the cheaper Picard. What would Ottawa get in return? [...]
February Review: Around the NCAA
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has produced some great puck athletes in it’s years in business. Many Sens’ players have played in the NCAA before coming to Ottawa. Players such as Cody Bass, Jesse Winchester, Brian Lee, and Brian Elliott began their stomping grounds in the NCAA. And the future is looking bright, especially for some few Sens players. Here are some reports on prospects playing the NCAA. The scripts are written by Hockey’s future. Louie CaporussoAcquired: 2007 entry draft, 90th overall ” With the University of Michigan losing three of its four top scorers over the summer of 2008, [...]
Kuba-Neil package to Boston in the works?
I’ve been told more and more lately that Ottawa and Boston are close to completing a deal sending Filip Kuba and Chris Neil to the Bruins for a 1st round pick and a conditional 4th round pick. After the Campoli/Comrie deal, Bryan Murray wants to stock up some prospects and picks before the Trade Deadline. A source says the Bruins have wanted Neil for a long time, and if they also take Kuba with him, it could be a done deal. We shall see Sens Army. We shall see. Thanks For Reading!!!
The Winds of Change: Welcome Back Mats!
Mats Sundin has been a Senator killer his entire life. He donned the ugly blue and white of Toronto proudly, and you’ve gotta respect him for that. He caused much of a kerfuffle during the off-season, but now that he’s in Vancouver, he’s firing it up again. It should be a good game tonight, and after the Sens lost to the Avs on Tuesday, they should get back on track tonight. Daniel Alfredsson is out with a fractured jaw and Chris Kelly will take his spot on the Pizza line, while call-up Joshua Hennessey will take Kelly’s spot on the [...]
