Craig Hartsburg had the pleasure of coaching young Steve “Franchise” Mason in the 2008 World Juniors. Tonight, he had to face the young sensation. Jakub Voracek’s goal was the only goal of the game and it was the game-winner, as the Senators were shutout 1-0.
Antoine Vermette and Dany Heatley a crapload of chances to score but they couldn’t convert. Heatley had a chance to tie it up late in the 3rd but Mason made the gargantuan glove save. Chris Kelly also had a chance to tie it up, but it the the crossbar. Overall, the defense and steady goaltending of [...]

Blue Moon On A Blue Thursday
Les Senateurs have a good record against the St.Louis Blues, and they’ll try to continue that tonight. There are some changes in the lineup. Peter Regin will dress with Dean McAmmond and Jarkko Ruutu while Nick Foligno will go back to on a line with Chris Neil and Mike Fisher. Jason Smith is back in while Alexandre Picard is out. I will question this move because Picard had his best game last game and scratching him stops the streak. But it was a tough choice for Harts and let’s hope it works out.
The Blues have sucked since the lockout and [...]
Harpooning The Trappers
The puck will drop for the second half of this season tonight as the Sens face their foe from south of the border, the “New Jersey” Devils. you get it? No? Oh, well I tried.
Brian Elliott will start tonight and I am quite surprised. I thought Auld would get the start to rest Elliott after starting 5 straight games. He is a rookie and management has to be careful with him, you don’t want to mess up the goalie of the future in the present. However, Elliott is on a roll and Harts noted he’s been working on his rebound [...]
Festivus Maximus!
Two special events have illustrated the past weekend for the Sens. First, Martin Gerber was put on waivers and Bryan Murray finally succumbed to fan and media pressure by stating Gerber won’t play a game in black and red this season and for the rest of his career. Gerber had his moments, he was god for the 1st half of last season, and everyone was happy with his play. However, he lacked consistency. He had the poorest glove ever(except against the Penguins in Round 1) and gave us gargantuan rebounds. I hope him the best of luck in his career, [...]
The Fastest Skater Competition was boring. The Youngstars Game was extremely saddening. The Accuracy Shooting Competition was okay to say at the least, the Elimination Shootout was pretty cool, and the Breakaway Challenge was better than last year. Here’s some changes I would make to the Skills Night.
#1- Put in retired goalies for the Yongstars Game
Don Cherry mentioned this, and it is really a fabulous idea. No offense to Pekka Rinne or Carey Price(ok, maybe I hate Carey Price), but it would be awesome to see the rookies play the sophomores with Gary Galley, Kelly Hrudey, Darren Pang, or Glenn [...]
March 4th is not far away. Ottawa is in the group where they haven’t decided what what they’re going to be on TD Day. They can be sellers, by getting some draft picks in the deep pool this year and managing their future, or if they continue their hot streak, they can acquire some skill players to compliment their playoff push. Otherwise, here are 5 players who can be traded on Canada Day #2.
5- Jarkko Ruutu
Ruutu, unfortunately, is expandable. There are some teams asking about his availablility and if Ottawa goes in a deep, deep hole, Ruutu could be traded [...]
Even though it hasn’t been announced yet by management, I’ve heard Hartsburg will start Auld on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils. Harts wants to rest Elliott for the upcoming 3 game road trip.
Thanks For Reading!!!
Eric Furlatt and Dennis LaRue have some explaining to do. I don’t like being a pussy and blaming the referees fir the loss, but they really did cost us the game. They made some really stupid, and when I mean, I mean very stupid calls. I don’t if anyone saw this, but I saw Lapierre taking down Heatley 3 times tonight, and none of them were called.
Tonight, the Sens played with heart, and they were duped. Even though Heater got the goals, the first star for the Sens tonight was Jesse Winchester, battling on the boards and started the Sens’ [...]
