Why Jack Quinn could be the Ottawa Senators' next trade target

The Ottawa Senators could target Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Quinn in a potential trade. Here's why the Ottawa native could be an ideal fit alongside Tim Stützle.

The Ottawa Senators are still looking to upgrade their roster despite the moves they've already made, including the acquisitions of William Eklund and Andre Burakovsky. If the Senators are ready to make another deal, it appears the Buffalo Sabres may be open to one.

It has been reported that the Sabres are using forward Jack Quinn as trade bait. Quinn is a former Ottawa 67's star and an Ottawa native. Drafted in 2020, Quinn is just beginning to hit his stride as a top-six forward after recording 20 goals and 51 points this past season with Buffalo.

Quinn was known for his goal-scoring ability with the 67's and is hoping to make that his calling card in the NHL as well. He's an exciting player, especially when you consider the possibility of him playing alongside centre Tim Stützle.

Quinn can play either wing, using his skating and edge work to keep up with Stützle. It's somewhat curious that Buffalo would be willing to move on from him, but at the same time, he's being shopped by a general manager who didn't draft him.

The Sabres have already traded away two defencemen and may be looking to add another to their prospect pipeline. A deal could be centred around prospect Logan Hensler. The right-shot defenceman, drafted in 2025, would give Buffalo a strong prospect who is closer to being NHL-ready than many other options around the league.

Quinn is entering the second and final year of his two-year contract, which will make him a restricted free agent at the end of next season. He'll be due for a raise, although it remains to be seen how much that will be, especially if he's playing alongside Stützle.

The Senators have shown they aren't afraid to make deals with Buffalo or within the division after trading Josh Norris to the Sabres for Dylan Cozens in 2025. If Buffalo is willing to listen to what Ottawa has to offer for Quinn, it could be another out-of-the-blue trade by general manager Steve Staios.
