It isn't a secret that the Ottawa Senators need to add a new goalie to their roster this offseason. Goaltending was one of the Senators' biggest issues this season, so they should be looking to find an upgrade between the pipes.
Bringing in another good goalie to help lower the pressure for Linus Ullmark should be one of the Senators' top goals this offseason. This year's free agent market does not offer a ton of notable options, so the Senators could look to find another netminder through the trade market.
When looking at trade candidates around the NHL heading into the summer, Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll stands out as a prime potential target for the Senators.
The Maple Leafs are entering the summer with three NHL-caliber goalies in Woll, Anthony Stolarz, and Dennis Hildeby. With this, there is an expectation that the Maple Leafs will at least listen to offers for one of their goalies this offseason. If Woll is officially made available, the Senators need to make a major push for him.
If the Senators acquired Woll, he would form a strong tandem with Ullmark. He could split starts with Ullmark and help provide the Senators with more stability between the pipes in the process. This would be huge for a Senators club that is aiming to cement themselves as legitimate contenders.
Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll could bounce back from a fresh start on the Senators
Like many Maple Leafs this season, Woll had a down year for his standards. In 39 games during the 2025-26 campaign, he posted a 15-16-7 record, an .899 save percentage, and a 3.34 goals-against average. Yet, when looking at his past success, it is clear that he is a prime bounce-back candidate for 2026-27.
Woll had a .907 save percentage in 25 games for the Maple Leafs in 2023-24 and a .909 save percentage in 42 games for Toronto in 2024-25. With numbers like these, he has shown that he can make a big impact when playing at his best. Due to this, he is exactly the kind of goalie that the Senators should consider taking a flier on this summer. Let's see if they do just that.
