The Ottawa Senators have officially named Thomas Chabot the 11th captain in franchise history.
Chabot has spent his entire 10-year career with the club, after he was selected 18th overall by Ottawa in the 2015 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2016-17 season, and since then, he has become one of the most important players on the Senators' blue line. playing more than 500 games with the organization.
Throughout his career, Chabot has scored 75 goals and 255 assists for 335 points while regularly playing big minutes against some of the best players in the NHL. He has also dealt with injuries along the way, but when he is healthy, he has consistently been one of the players Ottawa relies on the most.
Chabot takes over from Brady Tkachuk, who was the Senators' captain before wanting out of the organization. Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers during the offseason, where he will now play alongside his brother Matthew.
Which left Ottawa looking for a new captain, and Chabot makes a lot of sense. He has been with the Senators for a decade and has become one of the best defencemen in the organization all time. There was no better choice for the captaincy than Chabot, who has stayed with the club through the ups and downs.
Now, Chabot will take on the new role and look to lead his club to the playoffs for the third season in a row.
