Ottawa Senators fans had plenty of cause to celebrate on Saturday afternoon. The Sens clinched their ticket to the 2026 NHL playoffs.

However, the celebration was mildly muted amid the loss of captain Brady Tkachuk for the third period of their 3-0 win over the Islanders.

Tkachuk struggled to stay on his feet following a seemingly harmless collision with Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock.

The replay showed Tkachuk dealing with balance issues. He managed to get to the bench but seemed dazed. He left the game and did not return for the third period. Initial reports suggested that Tkachuk was undergoing testing for a potential concussion.

That much has not been confirmed. Following the game, Senators head coach Travis Green declared that Tkachuk “wasn’t feeling well.”

The cryptic comments did not offer any insight into what could be ailing the team’s leader.

During the Saturday Headline segment later on Saturday evening, Elliotte Friedman offered some more information on the situation.

"I think we'll get more clarity or an update tomorrow, but the word we're getting is that he's still getting tested, but thankfully, it's not expected to be anything significant."

The hope is that Tkachuk just needs a couple of days off to get some rest. However, there is a major concern that something bigger could be amiss. The last thing Senators fans want to hear is that Tkachuk might miss significant time due to a long-term injury.

With two games left in the season and a playoff spot locked up, it’s unlikely Senators fans will see Tkachuk in the regular season. Some rest would certainly be useful as the Stanley Cup playoffs loom.

The Senators are on track to face the Buffalo Sabres in the first round. While the seedings could still change, the matchup seems likely. So, the Sens will be hoping that Sunday’s update could provide more encouraging news moving forward.
