Monday night’s tilt between the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins did not go quite as expected. While the Sens pulled out a 4-1 victory at the TD Garden, the game also featured a significant loss.
Senators starting goaltender Linus Ullmark left the game during the second intermission due to an apparent injury.
There is no clarity on what the ailment is or when it happened. The suspicion is that whatever it was happened during this play.
The moment I saw this I thought, I hope Ullmark didn't get hurt right here. And now I come back for thr 3rd period and Ersson is letting in a soft goal. pic.twitter.com/KqjI9G3h5m

The collision between Ullmark and Bruins forward JJ Peterka seemingly left Ullmark shaken up, but the Senators netminder remained in the game the rest of the period.
However, he did not return for the third period. Interestingly enough, Ullmark was on the bench during the third.
Ullmark is currently backing up on the bench.

Curious, because he left the game due to injury. https://t.co/olIo0iTNnv
That may actually be an indication that everything went fine with Ullmark. I wouldn’t be surprised if the collision left the Swedish goalie a bit woozy, prompting a concussion checkup during the intermission. Since there was nothing to worry about, the medical staff cleared him to return. With the game 4-0 at the time, coach Travis Green likely allowed Samuel Ersson to take over the third, just as a precautionary measure.
That’s just my supposition, of course. More information should be forthcoming after the game and on Tuesday.
Samuel Ersson took Senators fans for a ride on the wild side
All told, Ersson came in and provided a solid showing by stopping eight of nine shots in the third period.
But the game couldn’t have ended without a ride on the wild side.
Now listen... I like Sam Ersson. I do.

But Ottawa's season could be over before it starts if Linus Ullmark isn't okay. #GoSensGo pic.twitter.com/kCV8I7w52l
This unfortunate miscue led to Boston’s only goal of the night. If anything, it was just a minor hiccup, as the Senators played a solid, lockdown game. Ottawa did not allow the Bruins much of a chance to do anything offensively.
That’s a good sign, especially since the victory meant two crucial points against a division rival.
The Senators are now 2-0 to start the Thomas Chabot era. The club has four points and has beaten two tough division rivals in the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Bruins.
Ersson should be back in the crease on Tuesday night as the Sens play the second leg of a back-to-back set. They’ll be facing the reeling Detroit Red Wings, who happen to be dealing with a significant number of off-ice distractions.
So, here’s hoping that the Sens can follow up Monday night’s effort with another solid showing on the road and lock up two more points in what figures to be a tight Atlantic Division battle.
