Although Ottawa Senators fans were hoping that their former captain Brady Tkachuk would remain pointless throughout his first season with the Florida Panthers, that hope came crashing down over the last couple of days.
Fans on social media were quick to observe that Tkachuk had one of his slowest starts to the season, and it was music to most ears in the nation’s capital. Tkachuk went without a point through his first five games of the season. His dry spell actually went as far back as April 11, when Tkachuk played what ended up being his last regular season game as a Senator. Following this game, he went without a point in his former team’s first round exit out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This ten-game span tied his longest pointless streak from January 9 to January 25, 2025, prior to the NHL’s first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off.
When Tkachuk assisted on Sam Reinhart’s power play goal in their 5-3 loss against the Buffalo Sabres, Senators fans knew that him racking up points was inevitable. Last season, the left-winger put up 59 points (22 goals and 37 assists) in 60 games, and with him now joining forces with his podcast partner and brother, Matthew, it was assumed that this production would continue since the Panthers traded away a fairly big haul for the 27-year-old.
A big four point night
What Senators fans did not expect was what happened next. In the team’s second game of a back-to-back amidst the NHL’s Frozen Frenzy Tuesday night schedule, Tkachuk went off and his on-ice production did not miss a beat. He finished the game with three goals and an assist (two goals and his assist on the power play) and four shots. His three goals earned him a second-period natural hat trick because he scored all three goals in the span of eight minutes and three seconds in the second frame. To add insult to injury, his Wingmen co-partner and older brother assisted on all three of his goals, making their accomplishment the first-ever natural hat trick with a sibling assisting on each goal in NHL history. The brothers had a total combined nine points in the game.
AND this is the first natural hat trick in NHL history where a brother assisted on all three goals 🤯 https://t.co/wQpX74dJGY pic.twitter.com/ZEvS70ulLw

Historically, Tkachuk has been known to have quite a few multi-point games. Over the span of his 579 NHL games, Tkachuk has had 115 multi-point games, and this game was his fourth four-point night. This was his first natural hat trick but his fourth career hat trick, with his last one on March 16, 2024, versus the New York Islanders.
On the plus side, at least Senators fans won’t have to worry about Tkachuk scoring his first goal of the season when he makes his much-anticipated return to Kanata. He is set for his first return to the Canadian Tire Centre to face the team that drafted him and honoured him as their tenth captain next week on October 21. Currently the Senators sit above the Panthers in the standings by two points. The Senators are set to play their eighth game of the season tonight against the New York Islanders and hope to secure their sixth win.
