Ottawa Senators Notes

The Ottawa Senators will play their final home game of the season tonight, hosting Fan Appreciation Night tonight.

Season Series: Tonight marks the third and final matchup of the season for these two teams. The Carolina Hurricanes won both previous matchups, most recently on April 4th.

Egor Sokolov scored his first NHL goal in Saturday’s win against the Tampa Bay Lightning, in a 7-4 win.

Claude Giroux currently sits 2 points away from the 1000 mark. He scored against the Lightning.

Derick Brassard was announced as the Ottawa Senators Bill Masterton Trophy Nominee this morning. The Masterton Trophy is awarded each year to the player that shows all-around dedication to hockey. There will be a piece up soon about Brassard’s tenure with the Sens and why this nomination means a lot to him.

Tim Stützle sits three goals away from being the first 40 goalscorers the Ottawa Senators have seen since the 2007-08 season where Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson each scored 41 and 40 goals that year.

Mads Sogaard was in the starters end for Morning Skate, it is expected that he will start today.

Carolina Hurricanes Notes

The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off back-to-back losses against the Nashville Predators and the Buffalo Sabres.

The Hurricanes are currently battling to clinch the lead of the Metropolitan division. They currently sit in first place with a game in hand to the second-placed New Jersey Devils.

Martin Necas scored the overtime-winning goal when these two teams last faced off on April 4th. The 24-year-old has scored 28 goals and 41 assists for a team-leading 69 points.

Frederik Andersen is expected to start in net tonight. He has gone 20-10-1 so far this season with 2.41 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.
