Game Recap: Ottawa Senators best Florida Panthers 5-2

The Ottawa Senators hosted the Florida Panthers and won 5-2.

The Senators matched up against Matt Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers. The Senators won 5-2.

First Period

Brady Tkachuk opens the scoring with 10:57 left in the period while he scores his 34th goal of the season. Assist goes to Thomas Chabot.

The Senators would be put on the Penalty Kill as Artem Zub is called for interference with 6:24 left to play in the period. The sens successfully killed the penalty.

Sergei Bobrovsky would save a breakaway shot from Alex DeBrincat followed by a rebound by Shane Pinto. What a stop.

Josh Mahura would be called for interference with 3:03 left to play in the period. The Sens are on the powerplay.

Erik Brannstrom scores his third goal of the year with 1:05 left to play in the period with a powerplay goal. 2-0 Sens.

Tim Stutzle is called for tripping with 0:26.1 left in the period.

The Period ends 2-0 for the Ottawa Senators with the Sens also leading in shots 7-6.

Second Period

The Senators would begin the period on the penalty kill, which they successfully killed.

Anthony Duclair would beat former teammate Thomas Chabot in a footrace and created a breakaway that was stopped by Mads Sogaard.

Gustav Forsling scores with 14:02 left to play in the period to cut the lead in half.  The assist goes to Sam Reinhart. 2-1.

Thomas Chabot is called for tripping with 13:05 left in the period. The Sens would kill the penalty successfully.

The Senators go on the powerplay as Eetu Luostarinen is called for tripping.

Alex DeBrincat scores on the powerplay with 37.3 seconds left to play in the period. It is his 24th goal of the season, assists go to Drake Batherson and Brady Tkachuk.

The Sens are ahead 3-1 after 40. The Panthers lead in shots 21-17.

Third Period

Shane Pinto is called for tripping with 13:07 left to play in the game. The Sens are on the Penalty Kill.

Gustav Forsling scores his second of the night with a couple of seconds left on the powerplay. The game is 3-2 with 10:45 left to play. Aaron Ekblad and Luostarinen are credited with the assists.

With 4:06 left in the game, Anton Lundell is tagged with a faceoff violation. The Sens go to the powerplay.

Tim Stützle scores his 36th goal of the year on the powerplay with 2:20 left in the game. The Sens are leading 4-2.

Shane Pinto adds to the lead with 90 seconds left to go. It is his 19th goal of the year and he scored on the empty net. The Senators are leading 5-2.

The game ends with the Sens winning 5-2.

The Ottawa Senators next play against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
