GAMEDAY PREVIEW #73: Ottawa Senators @ New Jersey Devils
The Ottawa Senators are set to face off against the New Jersey Devils
After Thursday’s win against the Tampa Bay Lightning, playoffs begin to be a bit more realistic although still improbable. This game is one of Ottawa’s most important so far this season. Here is your SenShot Gameday Preview:
Ottawa Senators (35-32-5, 75 pts) @ New Jersey Devils (45-19-8, 98 pts)
When: 7pm
Where To Watch: SN1
Where To Listen: TSN1200
Ottawa Senators Notes
The Ottawa Senators did not hold a pregame skate today, they held their practice yesterday.
Mathieu Joseph skated with the Sens at practice, but in a no contact jersey.
Ridly Greig’s season is done with a sternum injury, Jakob Chychrun is expected to miss “a few weeks” with a lower body injury.
Scoreboard Watching: Other than winning tonight, the best possible scenario for the Senators would be if the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Detroit Red Wings, the New York Rangers winning against the Florida Panthers, and the New York Islanders winning against the Buffalo Sabres. The game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh penguins could end either way, but considering Washington has played more games it would be better if they lost.
Claude Giroux is currently sitting at 993 NHL Career Points. He is 7 points away from the 1000 point mark, and there remains 9 games for the Senators this season. He currently has 28 goals and 42 assists for 70 points in 72 games so far this season.
Tim Stützle played in his 200th career NHL game against the Lightning. In that time he has amassed 69 goals and 97 assists and 166 points. So far this season he has amassed 35 goals and 44 assists for 79 points. He is on pace for 98 points in an 82 game season.
While DJ Smith would not reveal who will start in net tonight, expect Dylan Ferguson to start.
New Jersey Devils Notes
The New Jersey Devils have lost 4 of their last 5 games, including last night against the Buffalo Sabres.
The Devils could clinch the playoffs tonight with a win against the Senators in any fashion.
Jack Hughes continues to make strides in his development, as he’s currently one goal away from his first 40 goal-year in the NHL.
Expect Vitek Vanecek to get the nod in net tonight as Akira Schmid played last night.
