The Ottawa Senators are set to face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning
After Tuesday’s loss to the Boston Bruins, the Ottawa Senators regroup and return home to face off against the defending eastern conference champions in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here is your SenShot Gameday Preview:
Ottawa Senators (34-32-5, 73 pts) VS Tampa Bay Lightning (42-24-6, 90 pts)
When: 7pm EST
Where To Watch: TSN5, RDS2
Where To Listen: TSN1200
Ottawa Senators Notes
Tonight is an absolute must-win for the Senators should they wish to continue their bid to make the playoffs. Especially considering the Lightning are a divisional rival.
Scoreboard Watching: The perfect outcome for the Senators playoff bid would be if they won in regulation tonight, the Washington Capitals defeat the Chicago Blackhawks, the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the Florida Panthers, the St Louis Blues defeat the Detroit Red Wings, and if the Dallas Stars defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins. It would be even better if each matchup ended in regulation.
The Ottawa Senators currently sit 6 points behind the Florida Panthers for the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
Claude Giroux is currently sitting 9 points away from hitting the 1000 point mark in his NHL career. There remain 10 games in the season after tonight’s matchup. He has already scored 28 goals and 40 assists for 68 points in 71 games this season.
Tim Stutzle currently leads the Senators in goals(35), assists(43), and points(78). He has absolutely broken out this season and is on point for 98 points in a full 82 game season.
Dylan Ferguson was unavailable during Tuesday’s matchup against the Boston Bruins, but head coach DJ Smith has said that he will start tonight should he be healthy.
Tampa Bay Lightning Notes
Tonight will be the second of third matchups between these two teams, Tampa won the first game 4-3 in November.
Forward Nikita Kucherov eclipsed the 100 point in a season mark for the 3rd time in his NHL career. He is on pace to finish the year with 114.
The Lightning are coming off of a 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. They have gone 5-4-1 in their last ten games.
Brian Elliot is expected to start tonight.
