Ottawa Senators Notes
The Ottawa Senators are playing the second of a back-to-back. They lost against the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 last night.
Last night, Claude Giroux scored his 28th goal of the season. He is currently on pace for 36 goals this season. 36 goals in a season would be a career high for him.
The last time the Senators faced the Flames was on February 13th. The Sens won 4-3 in overtime.
It is crucial that the Senators win tonight should they want to make the playoffs as they are slowly beginning to lose ground on other teams in the same battle for a wildcard spot. The Sens currently sit six points out of the wildcard spot, and only have two games in hand to the Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals
Head Coach DJ Smith mentioned today that the three players who did not play last night would play this evening. That would mean that Julien Gauthier, Parker Kelly and Erik Brannstrom are in tonight.
As Mads Sogaard started last night, expect Kevin Mandolese to get the nod in net tonight.
Calgary Flames Notes
The Calgary Flames lost to the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Friday.
Tyler Toffoli leads the team in goals with 26. He is on pace for a career year. He’s on pace to score 32 goals and 37 assists for 69 points. It would be his third 30 goal season in the NHL.
Jonathan Huberdeau has had a rough first season with the Calgary Flames. He hasn’t been bad by any means but he is not going to finish the year with over 100 points like he did last season. So far, in 63 games this year he has scored 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points.
According to NHL.com, it appears that Jacob Markstrom will play in net tonight, he has played in five games in a row and tonight will be his 6th. Dan Vladar has not played since February 28th, against the Boston Bruins.
