The Ottawa Senators win against the New York Rangers 5-3 on Thursday evening.

The Ottawa Senators made their way to the Big Apple to play against the New York Rangers and close out their season series. This game marks Derick Brassard’s 1000th game in the NHL. It also marks Jakob Chychrun’s Ottawa Senators debut and Patrick Kane’s New York Rangers debut. The Sens win 5-3.

First Period

Chris Kreider scores on the penalty kill with 13:29 left to play in the period. It is his 27th goal of the year. Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad are credited with the assists.

Austin Watson got Tyler Motte in a weird hit with 7:11 left in the first, and is assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.

The Period ends 1-0 for the New York Rangers. Shots also favour the Rangers 12-8.

Second Period

With 10:18 left to play in the second, the New York kid Shane Pinto ties the game at 1. It is his 16th goal of the season. Alex DeBrincat and Drake Batherson are credited with the assists.

Derick Brassard scores in his 1000th game with 9:57 left in the second. The assists belong to Mathieu Joseph and Dylan Gambrell. Game is 2-1.

With 7:45 left to play in the period, Jacob Trouba scores to tie the game.

Vladimir Tarasenko scores for the Rangers with 5:06 left in the period. The score is 3-2.

The Second Period ends 3-2 favouring the Rangers. Shots are 26-22 for New York.

Third Period

Derick Brassard has a two goal game. He scores with 18:26 left to play, and ties things up at 3. Assist goes to Claude Giroux

Claude Giroux gives Ottawa a lead of 4-3 with 16:34 left to play. It is his 26th goal of the season. Assists go to Travis Hamonic and Brady Tkachuk.

Brady Tkachuk scores with 14:24 left to play. He takes over the game tonight. It is his 27th goal of the year. The play is challenged for offside. It is erased as the play was deemed offside. Game stays 4-3.

Tim Stützle scores into the empty net, potting his 29th goal of the year with 2:42 left to play. Assists go to Brady Tkachuk and Claude Giroux.

The game ends with the Ottawa Senators winning 5-3. The Three Stars of the game are Claude Giroux, Vladimir Tarasenko and Derick Brassard
