Dorion nabs Chychrun from Coyotes

It’s happened. The Chychrun saga is FINALLY over, and the winning bid belongs to the Ottawa Senators. Jakob Chychrun is an Ottawa Senator.

As per the tweet above, the price to acquire the all-star defenseman was Ottawa’s conditional first-round pick this year (top 5 protected, slides to 2024, if top 10 in 2024, pick slides to 2025, unprotected. Also if Ottawa reaches the Eastern Conference Finals this year, the second-round pick is upgraded to Ottawa’s 2024 First.), Washington’s Second Round pick in 2024 (Thank you Connor Brown and Cody Ceci). The Senators also send their 2026 Second Round pick in this trade.

Chychrun is a 24-year-old left-shot defenseman who spends his off-seasons partly in Arnprior, Ontario. He has 7 goals and 21 assists for 28 points in 36 games this season for the Coyotes. He has been rumoured to be traded for multiple years now. Chychrun has played in 373 games throughout his career and has been recognized for his tremendous two-way play. The 2024 Washington Second Round draft pick was acquired in a previous trade where the Ottawa Senators sent Connor Brown in exchange for this pick. Connor Brown was previously acquired with Nikita Zaitsev in exchange for Cody Ceci a few years ago. Ceci was selected 15th overall in the 2012 draft and did not pan out for the Senators.
