Pierre Dorion starts draft day with a bang, steals DeBrincat from Blackhawks

Pierre Dorion and the Ottawa Senators have pulled off the remarkable, acquiring 2-time 40 goal scorer Alex DeBrincat in a fleecing of epic proportions.

Amazingly, the Senators didn’t have to part with any of their prospects in the deal, an impressive feat considering the pedigree of a player such as DeBrincat. This is a trade that Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson is going to live to regret, at just 24-years-old, DeBrincat is one of the premier goal-scorers in the entire NHL, not receiving any prospects or NHL players in the deal is baffling and an amazing glow up for Pierre Dorion & co.

DeBrincat is an elite-forward in every sense of the word, he drives play on the offensive end of the ice, while being equipped with an amazing shot that is well-known around the league.

The 5’7″ forward ranks ranks among the best goal-scorers in the NHL since he entered the league in 2017-18:

Murray Saves the Bacon?

The Senators almost had a trade completed earlier in the day, reportedly sending the 7th Overall pick to Buffalo alongside with Matt Murray to Buffalo in exchange for the 16th Overall pick, fortunately the trade was nixed due to Murray’s modified no-trade clause.

There are rumours that the 16th pick would have been on the move in a modified deal for DeBrincat, however everyone should be praising Murray for utilizing his no-trade, allowing the 7th overall pick to be used as the centrepiece in the defining move.

Dorion was able to walk the talk by acquiring his highly touted “top-six forward”, and has now put the organization in an ideal spot heading into the start of the 2022 NHL Draft.
