Final Thoughts

While this move isn’t likely to be consequential, these small moves that the Senators’ front office make will tell you a lot about how they evaluate players and the potential decisions that they’ll make in the future.

Now, I think the team will protect Watson over Dadonov and this is mainly because of Bruce Garrioch’s predictions on who the Senators will protect in the Expansion Draft:

Usually referred to as knowing more inside information than any other media member in Ottawa, it’s likely Garrioch’s predictions line up with those of the Senators. This doesn’t mean it’s definitive, the Senators did commit $15 million dollars to Dadonov only a year ago, so they obviously once viewed him in high regard.
